For their third and final season with the Fashion East family, Charlotte Knowles and partner Alexandre Arsenault upped the ante with a collection that translated their underwear-inspired aesthetic for the ‘real world’. Titled Truss, it brought back the signature pieces – the fanny-pack inspired fanny skirt and fanny top, as well as the FW18 duffle Fang bag and heritage checks that featured in their SS19 collection.

Elsewhere, 90s-tinged cardigans with shaggy alpaca collars and cuffs were a nostalgic nod to the MTV era, while the corset-like bustier from previous seasons was updated with wadding. In riposte to the perceived lack of functionality in womenswear Knowles placed an extra importance on practicality with fluid dresses that granted both ease of movement and exterior inseam pockets, “for a woman’s tools”.

For Knowles, “Female empowerment goes beyond women wearing suits”, she is instead, “Creating the wardrobe for a new world order, for what future femininity could be.”
