Hip-hop continues to dominate the world of men’s fashion. Acting as an influence, primarily. With endorsements coming from hip-hop heavvweights like Kanye West, Jay-Z, A$AP Ferg and A$AP Rocky. But Astrid Andersen is the girl who has syphoned this unapologetic energy and achieved unrelenting support from the latter-two said rappers. Wiz Khalifa attended today’s show: another validation of her popularity.

Her career has progressed gradually: beginning with Fashion East, moving to the MAN initiative and now supported by the Topman’s NewGen scheme. This is now her fourth show with them. And her momentum is steadfast and growing at an accelerated pace.

Looks were styled and layered superbly by Elgar Johnson, with men wearing gloves and berets. A sense of uniformity that signified a fundamental military influence for FW15.

Two fabrics remained a constant: lace and crushed velvet. A known Andersen signpost. But in coral pink this time, and injected enough to punctuate the darker tones.

Pullovers, jumpsuits – in black, patent leather – and her signature fur-detailed jackets were deliberately oversized. Making these muscular models look powerful and in command – adding to an already strong atmosphere with the hip-hop beats blaring. A feeling that aptly reflects her current admiration and one that will surely continue.
