Swedish fashion house Acne Studios ventured back to school for a lesson in experimentation and unexpected combinations, echoing the brand’s acronym “Ambition to Create Novel Expressions”.

“Acne Studios has always been a place of experimentation, on which we have built solid foundations. It made me think of a student at art school, using its traditions to push somewhere new,” said creative director Jonny Johansson. Taking place at Maison de la Radio, the headquarters of Radio France just a stone’s throw from the Eiffel Tower, the collection explored the visual field of a creative; what guides the eye of an artist, painter or photographer and also their process.

Ideas played with the idea of what can or can’t be seen: interwoven check trousers created from wide strips of fabric revealed glimpses of skin beneath, while a transparent acetate coat created an optical illusion with its jacquard lining peeking out at intervals and blazers constructed with large acetate lapels offered an ultra glossy surface that gave off different reflections as the model walked.
