to the woods
Yesterday, on the same day as Raf Simons showed his Robert Mapplethorpe-inspired SS17 collection in Florence, the Belgium-born designer released the imagery for his FW16 campaign, shot by longtime collaborator Willy Vanderperre.
The collection marks Simons’ first offering since leaving his role as creative director at Dior and riffed on themes of nightmares and dreams. Martin Margiela, David Lynch, Detroit, The Breakfast Club and boy scouts were all points of inspiration cited in the designer’s show notes.

The campaign aesthetic follows on from last season’s cult-y offering. Set in a similarly dark and Lynchian country setting, the fresh imagery picks out some of the highlights from Simons’ FW16 collection, including those oversized, roughed-up varsity jumper. EPIC.
