The Sprüth Magers Gallery in London opened their new exhibition on Friday: WORK WEAR: Garment and Textile Archive 2008-2016 by gallery artist, Sterling Ruby.

Sterling Ruby’s portfolio is incredibly distinct. Outfits worn by Ruby in his studio were made from recycled fabric from leftover scrap from soft-sculpture productions and quilt projects. It became ‘studio camouflage’.

These worn entities became art themselves once works had been concluded: signifiers from each of his works are imbued into these button-down shirts and jean-style pants. So, whether that be remnants of enzyme washes, poured urethane, glaze, spray paint or paint splashes, each outfit quite evidently notches specific works since 2008.

The exhibition runs from March 11 – April 9 2016. More information can be found online, here
