rich inspo
In the half-century that he has been designing, Paul Smith has grown his brand to be synonymous with merging the qualities of classic British fashion with contemporary nuance. This season Smith searched deep within his label’s rich history to compile a 70s-inspired ensemble for a special LCM presentation.
Though Paul Smith shows his full menswear collection on the Paris schedule, each season he also brings a special presentation to LCM. This season it was an ode to the eclectic inspirations that have fuelled his designs over the years, shown with new designs from his FW15/16 collection.
Yesterday, within a recreation of his original, three metre by three metre shop – complete with Smith’s Afghan hound, Homer –, Smith presented a focused collection of vintage track, coach, and bomber jackets in leather and wool. Colourways were fresh; for example a dusty pink and forest green on a Merino wool bomber with orange trim.
Sport was key. The active outerwear was matched by a room full of memorabilia; a box full of old speedometers and a flamingo-pink bike stood between the the designer’s vintage homage, beneath which sat pairs of tennis trainers, nodding to Smith’s belief that “you can find inspiration in anything.”
