Saint Laurent is exhibiting Madonna’s provocative Sex book
Art | 25 November 2022

Released in 1992, Madonna’s groundbreaking book, Sex, presented a provocative and sexually-charged series of erotic photography. Featuring images of sexual acts, naked hitchhiking, bondage and fetish shot by Steven Meisel, Madonna was joined by a cast that included Naomi Campbell, Isabella Rossellini, and Vanilla Ice, who was dating the pop musician at the time. (Be sure to read about its infamous launch party, which saw Madonna turn up as her dominatrix alter-ego Dita in a Little Bo Peep costume.)

30 years on, Anthony Vaccarello is celebrating a re-edition of the book at Art Basel Miami. Showing through Saint Laurent Rive Droite, large-format images blown up from the book will be on show during the art fair inside a temporary beachfront box built especially for the occasion. T-shirts and totes printed with imagery will be available to purchase, while the re-issued book is published by Callaway, New York in a bespoke run of 800 copies – and a limited number will be signed by Madonna, with proceeds benefiting her Raising Malawi charity via an auction in the upcoming months.

GALLERY
