Sea, sun and surf

A trip to the seaside, but make it Saint Laurent
By Bailey Slater | Fashion | 4 August 2022

Saint Laurent’s vision of seaside paradise is a far cry from the familial and charmingly run-down spirit of the UK coastline. Instead of penny machines, novelty tattoos, doughnut vans and maybe even some banging bassline tunes shaking the ground at the accompanying fairground, Rive Droite’s Sunkissed collection longs for the type of waterside oasis in which one unwinds so far they become a full-length Fruit Winder.

It’s a refined paradise that Anthony Vaccarello conjures for his experimental diffusion line, the perfect setting for spotlighting some splashes of colour, luxurious fabrics and rhythmic motifs.

Juergen Teller is there too, snapping away as the Laurent crew hose themselves down in severe, gold-rimmed shades, envelope themselves in fluffy, striped beach towels, or even ride the waves with their branded surfboards. Catering to poolside leisure, heart-shaped lilos in graphic checkerboard/palm-tree prints are perfection. Vaccarello has even devised a replica version that serves as a drink holder, so your frozen margs can laze around the pool with you – just don’t let them float away! Complete your sun-kissed suitcase with an XXL towel that reads ‘Looking for Paradise?’ and a zebra-print frisbee.
