70s silhouettes and tailored sportswear: see Wales Bonner’s fourth adidas Originals collab
By Bailey Slater | Fashion | 1 June 2022

Ahead of her highly-anticipated pit-stop at the forthcoming Pitti Uomo fashion fair, Grace Wales Bonner is back with a brand new collection with adidas Originals.

The capsule is her fourth in collaboration with the brand, making use of a rich archive of now-iconic sportswear shapes that date back to the late forties. Bonner’s SS22 offering bestows new contexts onto these silhouettes, with extensive research into photography and music created in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

Looking to the 70s, an era of constant reference for the London-based designer, her staple tracksuits and intricately tailored outerwear staple are dolled up with slouchy-yet-fitted finesse in a hazy campaign shot by Jalan and Jibril Durimel.

Here, her muses beam in graphic shorts and jacquard knits, taking to vibrant shorelines in a palette of sunny yellows, pastel pinks and bright reds, or holing up in sun-lit rooms with checkerboard walls. The WB Samba sneaker, which dazzled in Bonner’s debut Originals collection, also makes a reappearance, boasting new colourways that speak to long, hot summers, a communal spirit of togetherness and really great socks.

The adidas Originals by Wales Bonner Spring/Summer 2022 collection is available globally on June 4th.
