Influential French designer Manfred Thierry Mugler has passed away

Renowned French fashion designer Manfred Thierry Mugler passed away yesterday aged 73.

Over his distinguished career, Mugler dressed some of the worlds biggest stars – from David Bowie to Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Rihanna – and created some of history’s most iconic looks: remember Bowie wearing a Mugler dress on Saturday Night Live in 1979? Or Kim Khardasian’s ‘wet look’ outfit for the 2019 Met Gala.

Having been a ballet dancer in Paris in his youth, this sense of beauty and performance fed through Mugler’s fashion. In 1974, the designer launched his eponymous label and became known for his spectacular runway shows (sometimes running for up to an hour), seductive, futuristic designs and blockbuster perfume Angel. Now, the designer’s avant-garde archive influence many – needless to say, Muglar’s legacy lives on.
