Byredo use speaker design to create the perfect fragrance diffuser
By Alex James Taylor | Fashion | 20 January 2022

Byredo are taking their fragrance design next level, combining their distinguished sense of smell with sound. Through their Olfactive Stéréophonique launch, the Swedish brand introduces the BYOJ-01 Biradial Controlled Directivity Scent Dispersion Device: a unique, experimental device that utilises audio technology and speaker design theory to create the ultimate diffuser.

Designed as a collaboration between by Devon Turnbull, founder of artisanal speaker and accessories brand OJAS, and Ben Gorham, Byredo’s founder and creative director, the product is guided by the duo’s shared love of music listening, “evoking the meditative effects of ritualistic practice and enhance a listening space.”

What appears similar to an industrial speaker, is a sophisticated device that borrows acoustic horn loading theories from speaker design and applies them to smell diffusion, delivering smell in a direct and controlled manner. The diffuser is launched with a new scene, Olfactive Pyramid, inspired by incense used in Hindu and Buddhist temples and crafted to help in the transition between states of consciousness.

Priced at €950, the Olfactive Stéréophonique is available now on Byredo’s website and flagship stores worldwide.
