Maison Margiela and Reebok have dropped a low-top Tabi
Fashion | 28 January 2022

In June last year, Maison Margiela and Reebok dropped their collaborative Classic Leather Tabi High trainer, and hysteria ensued (see our HERO 26 shoot). Now, the duo return to whip us up once again with the new Classic Leather Tabi Décortiqué Low, the low-top version of the innovative sneaker.

The new iteration draws inspiration from Reebok’s Classic Leather runner, released Fall 1983, translating the hallmark sneaker through Margiela designer John Galliano’s décortiqué technique; the art of deconstructing a garment to its core structure.

Within this, the architectural framework of the shoe is exposed as leather panels are cut away to reveal fabric lining. Designed from Reebok’s original base and pattern of the iconic Classic Leather – hand-painted using Maison Margiela’s ‘bianchetto’ technique, which purposely chips with wear – Margiela’s iconic 1988 Tabi split-toe is fused onto the design as an iconic signature.
