Givenchy preview their new collaboration with airbrush artist Chito
By Finn Blythe | Fashion | 16 July 2021

Givenchy have unveiled selected pieces from their collaboration with US artist Chito as part of a newly released preview of the SS22 Pre-collection. Long-time friend and fan Mattew M. Williams had invited the artist to produce a number of key designs this season that roll out globally online and in stores today.

Born in Seattle but based in Mexico, Chito is known for his signature airbrush, grafitted technique and modifying approach to design. Through embellishing high-fashion with a can of spray-paint, Chito gained fame online when Drake was pictured wearing one of his bespoke Stone Island creations. Having since collaborated with the likes of Veilance and Arc’teryx, Chito has forged his own independent success despite being the alter-ego of frequent Supreme collaborator Sancheeto. His work on Givenchy’s latest collection was unveiled earlier this month by Williams at the abandoned rail yard on the outskirts of Paris that provided the house’s show venue.

Featuring an array of unisex pieces including t-shirts, nylon jackets and accessories that Chito has used as his canvas, the collection bears all the hallmarks of his unique tagging style. The designs, many of which re-interpret classic Givenchy symbols (with a few of his thrown in for good measure), are bright and bold, as though they were recently sprayed by the artist himself. Accessories include new versions of Givenchy’s Antigona bag as well a pair of luxury sliders and a RIMOWA travel case that’s been given the full Chito treatment.

“Coming form creating unique pieces with airbrushed embellishments on rare objects and garments, and now being able to bring them to the world is something special in itself,” said the artist. “Only Givenchy would be able to make that happen.” As one of the first artistic collaborations to be unveiled by Williams since joining the house, we hope it’s an indication of what’s to come.

The Givenchy collaboration with Chito for the Spring 2022 Pre-Collection will launch in worldwide Givenchy stores and online from today.
