Dr Martens and Raf Simons team up for a 60th anniversary collaboration
Fashion | 17 February 2020

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Dr Martens’ 8-eye, yellow-stitched icon, the 1460 boot, the British shoe makers are partnering with twelve brands and designers over the next twelve months to reimagine the classic design. This month they have turned to Raf Simons, whose one-off reworking of the original will be hitting stores 22nd February.

At the heart of their creative partnership is music, art and youth culture, key themes of both design philosophies that have been distilled through punk-style customisation. In response to the design brief, “What does the 1460 mean to you?” Simons has opted for a series of nickel rings that evoke the New Romantic club scene of the late 70s. In doing so, Simons has not only paid tribute to the shoe’s spiritual heyday but reinvigorated a mainstay of British footwear for a new generation.
