Tyler, the Creator has created a tennis collection for Lacoste
By Finn Blythe | Fashion | 9 July 2019

For his brand’s latest collaboration, Tyler, the Creator and Golf le Fleur have partnered with Lacoste, the spiritual founders of tennis attire whose crocodile logo is a reminder of its founder’s tenacity on the court. With Wimbledon approaching fever pitch, Tyler has helped co-design sixteen items that are sure to transport wearers to 80s courtside and the era of Borg, McEnroe, mullets and headbands.

This pastel-hued collection combines sportswear-inflected chic with unmistakeable retro references. The two-tone colour ways are partially driven by Lacoste’s archive of contrasting elements, the rest is Tyler’s inimitable sense of fun. As in previous collaborations, colour presents an opportunity to play – dusty pink is renamed “litchi”, beige becomes a mineral “geode” and off-white is “mascarpone”.

Polos, shorts, bucket hats, tracksuits and sweatshirts, all are informed by straight-cut unisex tailoring that gives this collection ease of use. Cut from wool cloth, it combines the formalism of tennis dress codes with Tyler’s irreverent Californian style, incorporating varsity jackets and full tracksuits – even updating Lacoste’s logo by inserting a red poppy into the mouth of the croc.

Lacoste x Golf Le Fleur will drop on 17th July in Lacoste’s physical and online stores, as well as concept stores around the world.
