Fred Perry and Margaret Howell team up and hit the tennis courts
Fashion | 16 May 2019

“There’s something very rewarding for me to be collaborating with established British brand Fred Perry. The white polo shirt and sounds of Wimbledon set firmly in my mind from distant sunny school days…” reminisces British designer Margaret Howell. Taking those early tennis pieces in Fred Perry’s archive as a springboard, the two iconic British brands have combined aesthetics for a new collaborative collection.

Digging through the archives, Fred Perry classics are given the Margaret Howell treatment: the M3 Fred Perry shirt is updated with mother of pearl buttons, bomber jackets are cropped with a dropped shoulder fine ribbed hem and tennis skirts include a waistband adjuster and concealed zip, while straight-leg trousers have a built-in internal back pocket – ideal for a locker key or coin to flip for first serve. As for footwear, cotton canvas plimsolls, of course, an absolute tennis court essential. Well, after the balls and rackets.

The collection launches on 16th May in select Fred Perry and Margaret Howell shops – at only two months until Wimbledon, this is excellent timing.
