A very Banksy Xmas

Is this a new Banksy work in Wales?

A new piece of graffiti in the South Wales town of Port Talbot has sent rumours circulating that Banksy is the artist behind the work.

Earlier this week, former steel worker Ian Lewis discovered the intriguing mural covering two sides of his garage in the Taibach area. On one side, the image appears festive and joyful, showing a child playing in the snow. However, turn your head around the corner and it’s revealed that the child is not catching snow on their tongue, instead it is ash emitting from a rubbish skip on fire.

Ian Lewis explained to the BBC, “I didn’t think much of it at the time, I knew a little bit about Banksy but I never thought it would be him – if it is him…There were people coming here all night. I am very pleased, I think it is a smashing bit of artwork. It is good for the town and I just want to protect it, and it is here for everybody.”

While Banksy usually posts new work to his website or social media, the Port Talbot piece has yet to make an appearance. However, the work does bear a striking resemblance to a sketch that appeared in Danny Boyle documentary, The Alternativity, last year, in which the duo created an alternative nativity scene.
