French artist Philippe Parreno conceives his exhibitions as a scripted space where a series of events unfold, transforming the exhibition into a singular experience that plays with a visitor’s senses.
Titled La levadura y el anfitrión (translated in English as: The Yeast and The Host), Parreno’s first solo show in Mexico City – at the Museo Jumex – further explores his multidisciplinary ethos, creating journeys and evolving situations over two floors of new, existing and re-edited works.

For over two decades, Parreno has continuously tested the thin line between chaos and control. With his ability to craft seamless interactive environments through the use of film, sound design, painting, sculpture, and technology, the artist has redefined the exhibition experience by taking it as a medium and placing its construction at the heart of his process. Within this space he creates a series of open-ended possibilities and allows visitors to add their own individual interpretation.
