Warhol’s factory

MM6 Maison Margiela FW18

Drawing on Warhol’s iconic Factory, MM6 Maison Margiela presented its FW18 collection in a foiled-out room – a shimmering homage to Billy Name who famously glazed Warhol’s venue in tin foil wrappings, silver paint, and silver balloons.

Toying with the concept of visibility and self-reflection, the collection was rendered in a monotone silver palette and pieces ranged from puffer jackets and longline coats to fitted trousers and the signature ankle boot – this time boasting a new angular heel. Occasional splashes of black jersey and shearling punctuated the collection alongside disco ball prints and sequin appliqués.

Polaroid cameras and photographs were spread around the presentation – a nod to Warhol’s love of the photography format. Other eye-catching items included reflective envelope bags, biker-helmets-turned-shoulder-bags, a silver sequin take on its trademark tote bag, over-the-elbow gloves, tinsel clip-ons and bracelet-cum-ring jewellery combinations. Think Warhol meets Elon Musk – what a collab that would be.
