SOPHIE is the pop producer of everyone’s synth-soundtracked dreams. So, as added entertainment for his Belle Époque-inspired SS20 collection, Nicolas Ghesquière decided to project the musician onto a wall of the Cour Carrée.

To the sounds of an extended version of Sophie’s It’s Okay to Cry, a heady display took place in the Louvre’s central courtyard. A distinct taste for dandyism was palpable throughout, as models wore pinstripe pants, chevron tweed jackets and shirts with extra-wide collars that conjured up images of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.

Additionally, the devil was in the flamboyant details. Rainbow-colored vests were meticulously crafted and covered in zig-zag patterns entirely made from sequins. Leather totes printed with the brand’s signature LV monolith received a DIY update with added patches, while Cattleya orchids doubled up as boutonnières on the lapels of padded suit jackets. In essence, as the show notes read, this was Ghesquière’s homage to “the dream-like dawn of the 20th century and the 21st century that yearns to remember it.”
