Camping trip

Having spent her childhood surrounded by the moors and pastures of Shropshire, the rolling hills and wild winds of the area have long fed into Lou Dalton’s work. This season the London-based designer’s man was equally adventurous – informed by “like-minded individuals who have inspired or are inspired by the great outdoors, seeking solace, solitude and wellbeing.”

Tents and camping chairs filled the show space, bringing the outdoors in. Dimly lit, the room evoked a night in the elements, camping under the starry sky. Dalton’s wardrobe for such a trip? Plenty of knits, florals and the kind of light wardrobe essentials you can just bang in your rucksack and hit the hills. Quality craftsmanship is in the DNA of the brand and Dalton is not afraid to look outside herself to achieve this, teaming up with heritage label Gloverall on reversible showerproof outerwear and John Smedley on fine gauge sea island knits pieces.

As with past shows and presentations, Dalton likes to mix models with people from her life. Here, her friends, mentors and even fiancé served as models for the day. And that’s the hook with Dalton; that evolving personal narrative – plus really accessible, well-crafted clothes.
