If there was ever a fierce proponent of the underwear as outerwear trend, it’s Charlotte Knowles. The designer launched her eponymous brand with her partner Alexandre Arsenault after completing her masters at CSM in 2017, and has since worked to craft a lingerie-focused line which sartorially tackles common notions surrounding femininity.

For FW18, the mythical chimera (a fire-breathing hybrid creature in Greek mythology) underpinned her vision, as the collection was concerned with what constitutes an enigma. Digitally manipulated images of guitar pickguards were used to create a sort of nouveau camouflage print for Knowles’ woman who is both seen but hidden all at once.

Translucent bralets and side-split 90s-flavoured tank tops were worn with delicate mini skirts and ostentatious flares while Little Red Riding Hood-esque capes were fitted with hidden pockets. To truly understand the ethos behind her collection, one only needs to observe her chosen colour palette: forest green, deep mauve and burnt gold felt apt for a collection that was immediately feminine yet unapologetically gritty.
