ELECTION TALK

London five-piece Shame on why Jeremy Corbyn is a diamond geezer
Current affairs | 7 June 2017

So you’ve registered to vote in the upcoming UK general election. Now comes the big decision that directly impacts YOUR future. Still undecided? We’ve asked some of the UK’s creative talents which way they will be voting come 8th June, and why their decision makes sense for the country’s future generations. Hint: SHOW UP and make your vote count.

South London five-piece Shame was born from a culmination of feelings we can all relate to: boredom, restlessness, a disconnection from peers. They since found an ersatz family in London’s grot ‘n’ roll scene, and – alongside the likes of Fat Whites, Meatraffle and Dead Pretties – they fuel their music with a passionate political agenda (look no further than their latest track Visa Vulture –a tongue-in-cheek ode to Theresa May and her immigration policies), one in tune with Jeremy Corbyn’s vision of Britain, as described below.

How will you be voting in this election and why?

“Shame will all be voting labour in this general election as we don’t take pleasure in watching the less fortunate writhing in poverty. We want a country that works for the many, not just the few. Also Theresa May looks like she’s going to cry and/or vomit every time she’s asked a difficult question, and of course Corbyn is also a diamond geezer.”

Why is it so important for young people to vote?

“Young voter turnout is essential as it’s the only chance we have of stopping the older generations dictating decisions they most likely won’t even live to see implemented. Young people also have a lot more hope then our jaded older generations, who I’m beginning to think voted for Brexit just to spite us whippersnappers.”

How do you feel the outcome of this election could impact you as a band? How might it impact your peers in your industry and friends? And more broadly, our generation?

“The outcome of this election could impact us in many ways, the one that I’m most looking forward to is not being genuinely ashamed of the people in charge of our country and our general political direction, as I and many other have been over the last seven tragic years of Tory rule. If Labour win, ourselves and many others will probably have a lot less to be angry about, which I imagine will probably be evident in our songwriting from that point onwards. This choice on 8th June will be a defining moment in our lives, a manifesto that works for our country as a whole and not just one that looks after the already well off probably won’t appear again as long as we live. It is absolutely crucial we rally together to end this reign of vile Tory scum.”

Anything else you’d like to say on the subject?

“David Cameron fucked a dead pigs head.”
