A song brandishing Theresa May as a ‘liar’ has climbed up the charts just weeks before the General Election, however radio stations are refusing to play the track.

Currently at number three, Liar Liar GE2017 by Captain Ska criticises the PM’s policies on the NHS, education and poverty, and her party’s several recent U-turns. Despite the track’s positioning in the official UK music charts The Big Top 40 Show on Capital FM and Heart announced the song had made the Top 10, and simply skipped to the next song. “This is shameful and outlines the censorship in this country – now the music we hear is selected for us,” stated a petition calling the the song to be played on air in accordance to its position.

Featuring a variety of soundbytes from May’s speeches, the song’s lyrics include the lines, ‘We all know politicians like telling lies/Big ones, little ones, porky pies/Saying they’re strong and stable won’t disguise/We’re still being taken for a ride,’ culminating in a cutting chorus refrain: ‘She’s a liar liar, you can’t trust her, no, no, no.

The track is actually a remix of a song Captain Ska first released around seven years ago, attacking Nick Clegg and David Cameron for the Government’s hike in tuition fees.

Profits generated from downloads between 26th May and 8th June will be split between food banks in the UK and the People’s Assembly Against Austerity.
