Adapting hit films into TV shows is the latest Hollywood trend. From Fargo to Westworld to Scream, in this new Golden Age of TV, more and more blockbuster stars are trading the big screen for small.

The latest film to get this treatment is Harmony Korine’s 2012 cult hit Spring BreakersDeadline reports that Blackpills, a new soon-to-be-launched digital streaming platform, has ordered a Spring Breakers digital TV series from the original film’s producers Chris Hanley and Fernando Sulichin. Sadly, Harmony Korine will not be involved in this new project.

With its bikini and balaclava-clad Disney Channel heroines and James Franco’s memorable turn as the creepy rapper/drug dealer Alien, the film had all the ingredients to rocket it towards cult status. Set during Spring Break in South Florida, the film takes viewers on a vivid whirlwind tour of drugs, sex and moonlit Britney Spears’ piano serenades.

Casting is currently in the works, so watch this space for future updates.
