Neon signs and broken hearts
Emerging menswear label Lazoschmidl has just hit Stockholm Fashion Week with their debut runway show. It’s an accomplishment to be applauded for the brand who first presented their off-kilter unisex garments only a year ago as part of emerging designer platform Swedish Fashion Talent. Now, they have released a lookbook to mark the occasion, exclusively premiering here.
Founded by Josef Lazo and Andreas Schmidl, Lazoschmidl aims to redefine the boundaries of men’s tailoring by exploring aspects of homoeroticism and gay culture. Inspired by the red light districts of Frankfurt in Germany and Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles, according to the show notes the collection is about: “Neon signs, broken hearts and the search for fast and eternal love.” The runway saw models dressed in low-cut chainmail camisoles, sheer blouses and tight vinyl pants. “Everything is obvious, explicit even.”
Shot by Winter Vadenbrink, photo editor of C.O.D Magazine, the accompanying lookbook has a candid-anti-glamour feel to it. “We wanted the lookbook to contrast the glam rock hustlers from the show,” says Schmidl. “We invited models to our apartment in Marais and had them try on some our pieces with their own clothes. Our intention was to show a different side to the collection, demonstrate how ‘wearable’ it can be when incorporated into different styles.”
Vadenbrink captures the overtly sexual concepts behind the clothes through his compositions, crops and the interactions between the models. Male models dressed silk neglige, unzipped jeans and chain chokers are seen wrestling, their bodies locked and legs intertwined, he depicts the raw sensuality and intimacy of Lazoschmidl.
