Oscar Scheller has had a big 2016. From releasing his debut album Cut & Paste on Wichita Records to trekking the UK, Europe and US on tour, the London singer-songwriter has barely hit the ground. But you get the feeling busy’s OK for Oscar – set to wrap the year bringing down the house at Camden’s Koko, he’s bringing 2017 in with a bang.

With the big night just around the corner, we asked Oscar to whip us up a special party playlist. He’s no amateur at this – an avid record collector, you can always expect him to line up a killer eclectic mix (just see the mixtape he lined up for us last Christmas), and here he turns his ear to some serious bangers, from dirty bass lines to 90s dance floor jams. So crack the Red Stripe (or the Bollinger, should you be ballin’) and get the party started.

Take Your Soul by Sahara All Stars
“Sexy funky and groovy,” says Oscar. “Would start the party with this cause it will get hips moving. Makes me wanna pour a cocktail and have a high speed car chase.”

Boom Shack Attack by Born Jamericans
“Gangsta beat, dubby bassline, bit of toasting. What more could you ask for in a party tune?”

I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little Bit More, Baby by Kellee Patterson
“Sensual, mysterious and essential to a good night. It’s a cover of a Barry White tune and I actually think I prefer it to the original.”

Dat $tick by Rich Chigga
“Easily my favourite discovery of 2016. He dresses like a golf dad but his flow is better than most rappers out there and this BEAT is coooooldddd like January.”

Just A Lil Bit by 50 Cent
“This is a banger, enough said. That eastern flute is deadly. Shit, mainstream music used to be SO GOOD!”

Get Into The Groove by Madonna
The ultimate Madonna party anthem. Disco disco disco pop. I’d play this cause I know my friend Jamila would start dancing on the table!

Took The Night by Chelley
I discovered this watching french television at 3 in the morning and literally jumped of the sofa to dance. Easily the best thing about 2009. It will get people voguing quicker than you can say cunty

Dreamer by Livin’ Joy
Club Classik! Bouncy, infectious, good house party vibes. Those chord stabs though, they’ll take me into 2017 nicely

Limb By Limb by Cutty Ranks
I will play this in every set because wtf it’s just so good. I’ve loved it since I was 11 years old

Truly by Sovereign
I’m such a sucker for slick and bubbly UKG. Love the vocal hook too. That bassline was definitely on the naughty list.

Oscar plays with Black Honey and Mark Beaumont 31st January, at Koko, 1A Camden High St, Kings Cross, London
