Today, Anthony Vaccarello has announced that he will put his eponymous brand on hold in order to concentrate on his new role as creative director at Saint Laurent.

“This adventure has been amazing but I now feel the need to fully focus on this new project,” the Italian-Belgian said in a statement, whilst thanking those who have supported the label. Having launched in 2008, the brand will not show a collection for SS17, which will be the designer’s debut season in his new position at Saint Laurent.

This latest move raises the debate as to whether a designer can spread their efforts between a leading role at a major fashion house and their own signature brands – recently Raf Simons criticised the intense pressure placed on a designer’s shoulders and Jonathan Saunders shuttered his own brand having joined Diane von Furstenberg as chief creative officer.

Vaccarello will present his debut Saint Laurent collection at Paris Fashion Week in October, having succeeded Hedi Slimane in April this year. Recently, he released a series of monochrome teasers, giving a teaser as to what we can expect from him in his new role at the French fashion house.
