Yesterday, the British Fashion Council (BFC) announced the five name shortlist for this year’s BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund: Astrid Andersen, Craig Green, Christopher Raeburn, Lou Dalton, Sibling.

Having first launched in 2013, the fund boasts a highly coveted price comprising of a bespoke, high level mentoring support programme over a twelve month period, as well as a £150,000 grant to provide necessary infrastructure to take them to the next stage in their business and £50,000 value in kind services.

“As the menswear industry continues to grow in size and reputation this year’s shortlist shows the diversity and the talent of London’s menswear designers.” Said Caroline Rush CBE, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council. “As well as sheer creativity these designers also have impressive business strategies and the potential to be Britain’s next big menswear brands.”

In a city with increasing costs, funds like this one are vital in helping designers establish their name and progress their brands. Previous winners include Christopher Shannon and Patrick Grant from E. Tautz. Who wins this year? We’ll find out on Wednesday 18th May, so place your bets – it’s a close call.
