Swedish photographer JH Engström’s latest book lives up to it’s name, Random
Art | 21 July 2015

Photographer JH Engström’s latest book, titled Random, is cited as ‘an exercise in producing a book solely with the “will of the medium”.’

Known for his perfectly imperfect technique, Engström includes dust marks and visible borders to emphasise that his images are merely an interpretation of reality. Engström began in Paris as apprentice to Mario Testino before moving to Stockholm to assist Anders Peterson.

His latest release lives up to it’s Random title, the Swedish photographer has randomly selected 60 images and 40 of which were then randomly selected by publisher Mörel, and randomly sequenced.

In keeping with Engström’s candid aesthetic the book is printed on ‘any uncoated paper [the printers] randomly had to spare’, resulting in a a fresh publication that is not just documenting Engström’s oeuvre, but also becomes part of it.

Random is out now on Mörel Books
