Over 150 Chuck Close prints are now on view at White Cube Bermondsey. A touring
exhibition of the multimedia artist sees a mammoth collection of his print works – mostly
mosaic portraits, or ‘heads’, as he prefers they’re called – made from soft focus, close-
up portraits. Close’s large-scale paintings are brought to mind at the mention of his name,
but his prints require a painstaking attention to detail and are rather venerating in person.

Philip Glass, Lou Reed, and Roy Lichtenstein are some of the subjects of his prints.
Thrilling, since most of these subjects are friends of the artist. His blurred works, which
include tapestries, even, are a mixture of his own work and multiple collaborations. It’s
up to the viewer, however, to focus these hazy visions.‘Chuck Close Prints: Process and
Collaboration’ is open to the public from today.
