Woodlands and skull masks: the first glimpse Seán McGirr’s McQueen
By Barry Pierce | Fashion | 14 February 2024

Since the announcement of Seán McGirr as the new Creative Director of Alexander McQueen back in October, there has been a purposeful radio silence from the brand as, you must presume, they ready themselves for a new era. Now, we finally have our first sign of what’s to come from McGirr’s McQueen.

In a series of images starring the legendary models (and close collaborators with Lee McQueen himself) Debra Shaw and Frankie Rayder, the famed McQueen skull motif is front and centre. The models sit in a forest, among the pines, wearing chrome skull masks, playing with McQueen’s concept of the memento mori.

Also revealed is a brand new logo. Or, it’s actually the first logo that McQueen himself conceived over thirty years ago, but now redrawn and back at the centre of his brand. Could this all mean that McGirr is going to return the brand to its 90s heyday? Not much is known yet, but we’ll be following this one closely.
