Go behind the scenes on Timothée Chalamet and Martin Scorsese’s Chanel campaign

When paparazzi pics of Timothée Chalamet and Martin Scorsese surfaced shooting something on the streets of New York City back in spring, the rumours began to run wild. It was later announced that the duo were filming a commercial for Chanel’s classic men’s fragrance, Bleu De Chanel. Released alongside an accompanying campaign image shot by Mario Sorrenti, Scorsese’s commercial is yet to be revealed. Chosen as the Maison’s latest ambassador, Chalamet embodies the fragrance’s spirit of modernity and innovation as one of his generation’s most esteemed actors.

After directing the first Bleu de Chanel campaign in 2010, Scorsese’s second film for the house is set to air on October 16th. In a scripted version of his own life, Chalamet portrays a young man on a quest to find himself, fuelled by instinct and impulse as Scorsese tells a narrative focusing on the overexposure which comes hand-in-hand with fame. Artfully shot in black and white, the legendary auteur captures the duality of Chalamet’s character as his celebrity persona is interviewed on late-night TV (shades of The King of Comedy? Maybe) or living in a New York City skyscraper. Culminating in a final scene drenched in a blue hue, Chalamet’s character embodies the fragrance’s tagline: “Find your blue, find yourself.”

Ahead of the commercial’s release, we showcase an exclusive BTS film in which Scorsese discusses working with Chalamet and “the conflict between celebrity and staying true to being an artist.”
