Double trouble

HUGO and Mr. Bathing Ape’s rule-breaking collaboration has just landed

Fusing the distinctive, rule-breaking styles of both Berlin and Tokyo, HUGO and Mr. Bathing Ape (Bape) have teamed up on a striking capsule inspired by bustling city life.

Kicking off with an exclusive event in London last night, featuring live performances by M Huncho and Joce Wavey, the endeavour reimagines brand signatures such as tailored jackets and pleated shorts with splashes of Bape’s iconic Baper Camo. The print acts as jacket linings and subliminal prints in swathes of greyscale as formal codes blend with baggy streetwear cuts on logo t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, socks and even pocket squares.

The Bapesta is another staple that manages to get a look in on the action. Birthed by the brand in 2000, the shoe has long been at the fore of street style with its chunky soles and distinct shooting star logo, undergoing a HUGO makeover, here the footwear is reworked with burgundy labelling and jet-black accents.

In the spirit of this future-facing drop, the capsule doubles as HUGO’s first foray into the virtual retail space – aka the metaverse – having first been unveiled at ComplexLand 3.0 back in May. The event gave users a chance to create their own shopping experience in custom HUGO pop-up stores, dressing their avatars in standout pieces from the collection whilst also teasing in-app drops of exclusive items.

The HUGO x Mr. Bathing Ape capsule is available to shop in-store and online now.
