Balenciaga lands in London
By Bailey Slater | 25 March 2022

Balenciaga has arrived in London with a brand new flagship store.

The imposing residence, with its harsh armour of stained concrete and sleek, neon signage, is located on the capital’s famous New Bond Street. As things stand, the three-floor residence marks the brand’s biggest European flagship to date at a whopping 710 sqm. No expense has been spared in the curation of this truly enveloping retail experience, with vast shopfronts spliced up by thick metal bars opening the store to outside spectators like an architectural x-ray.

Each level of the space speaks to a different kind of deterioration or construction, with the push and pull of time felt immediately as you step into the ground floor of the complex. From an elevator shaft sans elevator to the mud-trodden cove that surrounds the ground floor staircase, this deliberately unfinished world is just waiting for a chance to be populated, bending to the whims of Demna’s heady and innovative world.

The space also hosts a slew of products pulled from the entire Balenciaga universe, with a wide range of the French fashion house’s latest ready-to-wear pieces, bags, shoes, eyewear and jewellery all available to take home. Hanging on polished aluminium racks or atop sharp, stained desks, these raw cuts are the heart and soul of this space, a pertinent distinction between past and future.
