British menswear designer Bianca Saunders has been unveiled as the winner of this year’s ANDAM fashion award, for which she will receive a €300,000 fund and one year’s mentoring from Balenciaga’s CEO Cedric Charbit.

“I can’t put into words how thrilled I am to receive such a prestigious award and I am truly honoured,” said Saunders of the news. “Mentorship from such a key player in the industry, plus financial support like this will help me really focus on growing my business and realising my lifelong dream – establishing Bianca Saunders as a global fashion brand.”

Since launching her eponymous brand in 2017, the London-born designer has gone from strength to strength. In addition to showing as part of the BFC’s prestigious NEWGEN programme and being named by Forbes in their 30 under 30 list, Saunders has honed a unique voice in menswear that rightly posits her as one of this country’s most exciting names for the future.

Drawing heavily from her British-Jamaican heritage, Saunders is reshaping traditional notions of masculinity with her innovative tailoring and use of fabrics, a fact perfectly illustrated by the ruched shorts and side-split trousers she created for AW20. With the ANDAM award adding to her already sizeable list of accolades and achievements, we can expect to see and hear a lot more from this hugely talented designer for years to come.
