Carhartt WIP launch a weekly revisit of their favourite radio sets

Launched in 2008, when Carhartt’s in-house record company Combination Records was reeling from the impact of digital streaming, Carhartt WIP Radio became the brand’s main musical platform, connecting listeners with monthly online radio shows compiled by producers, label owners, artists and DJs.

From its outset, the show was a way of re-directing the focus onto independent labels after they had suffered a similar fate to Combination Records. Devoting slots to the likes of Innervisions, L.I.E.S, Awesome Tapes from Africa and Huntleys + Palmers, label founders were given a long-form opportunity to showcase their artists and discuss their reshaped approach to producing music in a digital age.

With Radio Rewind, Carhartt WIP Radio are revisiting a selection of their favourite shows, to be streamed online every Thursday and Sunday for the coming weeks on their Soundcloud. First up is a look back to German producers Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann who perform their experimental synthesis of house and techno under the alias Âme and co-founded the Berlin-based label Inversions along with fellow producer Dixon. Drawing heavily from Detroit House while relentlessly pushing their own conceptually innovative sub-genre, co-founder Kristian has mixed a show featuring some of his favourite tracks from the Innervisions archive. Give it a listen below.
