Evoking “memories of Paris and New York in the nineties”, Clare Waight Keller has released her SS20 Givenchy campaign, featuring legendary actor Charlotte Rampling and designer Marc Jacobs.

Christened “the iconic Givenchy couple,” the imagery – photographed by Craig McDean – was revealed on the house’s Instagram via a series of surreal, black-and-white videos. In one, the pair play a game of tongue twisters, switching between their names and mixing them up until it turns into nonsense and Jacobs ends up saying “lamb chops” instead of his own surname. This clip references the Meisner technique, a practice designed by acting teacher Sanford Meisner in which pairs repeat phrases with increasing focus in order to convey their hidden emotions.

In another, Rampling slaps Jacobs across the face.

This isn’t the first time the pair have teamed up, in 2003 Jacobs cast Rampling for a series of campaigns shot by Juergen Teller – but it probably is the first they’ve resorted to physical violence…
