Diamonds are forever

Pringle of Scotland brings back its 80s Argyle
Fashion | 17 September 2019

Dating back two centuries, Pringle of Scotland‘s heritage runs deeper than most (having started as an underwear company, no less). Taking advantage of these rich archives, the brand’s newest capsule collection looks back to the 80s, repurposing its classic Argyle designs across a new unisex line.

Originally inspired by the tartan of Clan Campbell of Argyll in western Scotland, the diamond-pattern found popularity with golfers, aristocracy and Hollywood royalty – particularly Grace Kelly – during the early twentieth century, before finding a new lease of life in the 80s as an emblem of youthful rebellion, as seen across football terraces and worn by the likes of Ian Curtis and Trainspotting’s angriest Scotsman, Francis Begbie.

Reflecting this history, Pringle’s new Reissued line jumps from mohair jumpers to oversized scarves, all featuring the iconic Argyle pattern. Presented via a shoot by London-based photographer and filmmaker Joshua Gordon, we see the likes of Lucien Clark, Tara Lily, Jyrell Roberts, Jess Maybury and Lennon Gallagher all kitted out in the new gear.

Buy the collection at Pringle and Dover Street Market London.
