Fendi has joined forces with Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster for a special unisex sunglasses collaboration that offers an alternative view of the world.
Blending Fendi’s intricate Italian craftsmanship with Gentle Monster’s innovative and playful aesthetic, we get two designs: Gentle Fendi No.1, a super slim, retina-skimming shades with colourful lenses and metal trips (very Matrix), and Gentle Monster No.2, a larger, aviator-esque design with coloured acetate insert on the bridge – sort of like Hunter S. Thompson on a trip too far. Both designs come in a range of separate colorways.
Marking the release, the two brands have bumped heads for a range of projects showcasing the new collab. Building on the idea of heavy cultural juxtaposition, Russian artist collective AES+F – known for their multi-media, sci-fi creations – have created accompanying campaign imagery and a film that takes viewers to a world in limbo between past and future. Here, models become magical characters interacting with a surreal environment of classical architecture and minimal futurism. Hit play below and see for yourself.
Elsewhere, those in Seoul will be able to pop into the Gentle Fendi Caffè, where they can indulge in a range of specially created food and drink including ice cream from the Steccolecco Gelato bar. While interactive installations will take place at the Gentle Monster flagship store in Beijing from 7th May – 1st June.
The Gentle Fendi capsule collection will be available from 7th May in Fendi and Gentle Monster boutiques.
