London is the latest city to get the Hedi Slimane Celine refurb treatment, having cut the ribbon on a brand new New Bond Street store.

Integrating the architectural concept designed by Hedi Slimane that has been rolled out across a series of recent store openings – a combination of natural stone, polished marble, mirrors, grey travertine and wood – the store is built around a minimal, streamlined ideal that mirrors his collections for the French house. While furniture designed by Hedi sit next to one-off vintage design pieces exclusive to London, and wood stools are hollowed out and filled with mini-libraries curated by the Celine designer (subjects include architecture, skateboarders, Anton Corbijn, Tom Wesselman and Jean-Luc Vilmouth).

As previously announced, each store will be designed to include specially commissioned site-specific artworks as part of the Celine Art Project. In London, Chicago-born artist Eli Ping’s work, Post, takes centre stage.

“Made by cutting a segment from a steel I-beam, then rotating and inserting the cut segment between the two remaining pieces,” reads the accompanying press release. “From the eye level up, the mass of the beam sits atop a narrow plane of material, revealing a window in the planes of steel absented by the cut. The resulting form evokes statue, totem, and an interruption in a basic structure of architecture and language.”
