Another day, another enticing clue into Hedi Slimane’s Celine vision. Having been teasing us with a steady drip of black and white imagery via the brand’s social media channels and also plastered around the world’s major cities, now we get a glimpse at the invitation to Hedi’s debut show, which will be held at Paris’s Place Vauban on Friday 28th September.

The Instagram post reads: “Celine’s format of invitation is a book covered with canvas, comprising 7 folded and removable double sided posters. The 14 photographs each depict historical or iconic nightclubs or night cafes of Paris.” Taken by Hedi himself, the series pulls together pictures of ten iconic Parisian venues: Balajo, Bus Palladium, Chez Castel, Chez Jeannette, Chez Moune, Folies Pigalle, La Cigale, La Java, Le Rouge, and Pile ou Face.

This style of invitation is one Hedi has perfected throughout the years. Think back to the designer’s time at Saint Laurent and you’ll no doubt remember his incredible show invitations for the house: each guest received a perfect-bound black book consisting of around 100 pages specially curated by an artist chosen by Hedi to represent each collection. A highly covetable collection that exemplified Hedi’s deft melding of art, fashion and culture, the little black books featured unique works by artists such as Raymond Pettibon (FW14) and Oscar Tuazon (FW15).

So, with the French designer’s debut Celine show just a few days away, it seems we can look forward to not only a new volume in Celine’s storied history, but one in our invitation collection too.

Hedi Slimane will present his debut Celine collection on Friday 28th September at 20:30.
