Disney are reportedly working on a new gender-flipped adaptation of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel High Fidelity and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack.

Writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka (Ugly Betty) are penning the treatment – which will see Cusack’s lovelorn character Rob Fleming replaced by a female lead – for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

Deadline describes the concept as “a departure from the book and the movie while still capturing the romantic comedy and authentic spirit of the original source materials.” Centred on a female record store owner recounting her past romantic relationships, she will talk “straight to the camera as she chronicles past relationships” – much like Cusack did in the 2000 cult classic.
