The nominations are in for this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, and it’s an interesting mix of industry stalwarts and nascent talent.

Raf Simons of Calvin Klein, who took home both the Womenswear and Menswear Designer of the Year awards last year, is once again nominated for both categories, as is Off-White‘s Virgil Abloh. Supreme designer James Jebbia is also nominated for Menswear Designer of the Year (further prove of the streetwear brand’s weight in the industry), while Thom Browne and Tom Ford complete the category.

Championing the next gen of talent, The Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent sees HEROINE 8’s Mike Amiri nominated for his eponymous brand, alongside Kirby Jean-Raymond’s politically-charged label Pyer Moss.

The announcement follows a concerted effort from the CFDA towards inclusivity for this year’s event. WWD reports that the organisation’s chief executive officer and president Steven Kolb sent out an e-mail urging the 500-strong voting panel – consisting of industry heavy-weights – to consider to race, gender and inclusivity when putting forth nominees. “We truly want the event to celebrate the full creative spectrum and richness of American fashion,” he wrote in the e-mail. “Just think of how much fashion is changing, and the diversity of our industry. Designers with broad cultural backgrounds and political ideas are expressing their experiences and beliefs in their collections. Their work deserves greater acknowledgment, acceptance and visibility.”

The event will take place on 4th June in Brooklyn.
