Fresh for winter; legendary auteur Gus Van Sant has collaborated with burgeoning French brand Études on a new sweatshirt based on an original poster from his iconic directorial debut Mala Noche – the film that placed Van Sant firmly on the cinematic map.

According to Etudes, the piece “[pays] homage to the moments that aren’t about plans and their desired outcome, but about moments that continue organically from one minute to the next.”

And it’s an ethos that echoes the narrative of Van Sant’s debut film. Shot in grainy black-and-white on a mini-budget of $25,000, the reinterpretation of Walt Curtis’ autobiographical novel, Mala Noche & Other “illegal” Adventures, follows the whirlwind meeting of Walt, a gay store clerk, and two Mexican immigrants.

The sweater retails for €250 and will be available on the Études website.
